ABOUT

Of Franco-British origin, Caroline Delétoille explores memory and questions what eludes perception. After studying mathematics and management, she spent eight years working in strategy consulting. At the same time, she developed an artistic practice and decided to dedicate herself to it fully in 2021 following personal events that led her to question, in particular, the notion of loss.

Her work has since been exhibited in France, the Czech Republic, and Spain. In 2024, she was selected for the art-science residency of the French Consulate in Vancouver, in collaboration with the University of British Columbia (UBC). In 2025, she presented a project developed in collaboration with quantum research laboratories and the Nicéphore Niépce Museum of Photography at several institutions, including CENTQUATRE-Paris, the Collège de France, Maison Poincaré, and UNESCO. She enjoys working in dialogue with the scientific field. Her recent work explores quantum physics, forest transformation, colonial memory.

Her works are part of public and private collections in France and abroad, including the UK, the United States, Canada, Spain, and Sweden.

“In 2019, I received a phone call informing me that the family home had been emptied the day before and its contents thrown away. Nothing remains, yet what can no longer be seen or touched continues to exist within me. This questioning of what escapes the gaze lies at the heart of my work.

I paint from fragments: family archives, faces of relatives or strangers, photographs I rediscover, places I pass through… These images become the starting point of an investigation to be carried out, an opportunity to reflect on what we keep, invent, or believe we know.

Certain motifs return: childhood, gardens, portraits, the familiar. But I do not want a painting that reproduces. I seek to distort, reframe, saturate. For lines to lose their straightness, to bend and come alive. I like running the image through a press, or layering strata of medium in thin coats until they become shifting. As rational points of reference are disturbed, imagination is activated.
